A WOMAN was subjected to a serious sex attack in a Cwmbran street on Saturday afternoon.
The assault, described by police as "particularly nasty", took place in the street in the Northville area at 4.45pm.
It is not thought the local woman knew her attacker.
Detective Sergeant Ieuan Watkins, of Pontypool CID, said: "As a result of inquiries in the area a male who was acting unusually was identified in the town centre of Cwmbran.
"He was arrested on suspicion of the indecent assault and one officer was injured during that arrest."
The man was questioned about both incidents and was released pending further inquiries.
DS Watkins said: "The victim has been left traumatized by this matter.
"This was a particularly nasty incident and we would like to hear from anybody who spoke with a male in unusual circumstances between approximately 4pm and 5pm, in Northville, on Saturday, to contact Cwmbran police station on 01633 838111."
