PERCY Montgomery scored all 15 points as Newport Gwent Dragons stormed to a 15-9 victory over Llanelli Scarlets in a Rodney Parade thriller last night.
It avenged two defeats the Dragons suffered at the hands of the Scarlets at Stradey Park in September and maintained their challenge for the Celtic League title as well as their unbeaten home record in the league.
Montgomery followed up his 15 points against Leinster last week which included a try, with 15 more, this time providing all the Dragons points with five penalties from five attempts.
Llanelli were also confined to penalties as outside half Gareth Bowen landed three, but he also missed three attempts.
Despite the kicking contest, it was a cliffhanging match which went right to the wire and was a cracker despite the lack of a try.
The Dragons remain in second place in the table, now two points behind leaders Ulster who gained a bonus point in their 31-19 win against Neath-Swansea Ospreys at Ravenhill last night.
But the Dragons are now five points ahead of the Scarlets, their nearest rivals, in second place in the table.
The Dragons now visit the Ospreys next Friday, coach Mike Ruddock declaring after their victory last night, "It's difficult seeing the same work preparation going in but not playing as well away.
"Llanelli was a great scalp, but we could feel very uncomfortable if we don't win away next week."
But the Dragons could be without key lock Ian Gough for several weeks after he had to be carried off the field on a stretcher with a twisted ankle in the first-half last night.
