THOUSANDS of pounds of suspected amph-etamine has been seized in a police raid at a Pontypool home.
Three-quarters of a kilogram of the powder was confiscated along with a stolen quad bike and a 1,000cc motorbike from the property on Sunday. A 30-year-old man from Trevethin was arrested and released on police bail while detectives await the results of a forensic analysis of the suspected drugs.
The arrest was made as part of Operation Highland-er that targets rural burglaries around Abergavenny, Pontypool and Cwmbran.
Detective Inspector Ieuan Watkins, from Pontypool police, said: "We executed a search warrant at the Trevethin address and recovered a large amount of powder suspected to be amphetamine base with a street value of £3,000 to £4,000.
"This is the fourth arrest as part of Operation Highland-er and further arrests are planned in the future."
He said there was a team of officers from Pontypool and Abergavenny dedicated to the operation.
DI Watkins said the operation was successful because of the information given by residents in the Trevethin and Penygarn areas of Pontypool.
He appealed for anyone with information about rural burglaries in the area to contact Pontypool police in confidence by telephoning 01495 764711.
