AS UK drivers get to grips with driving on ice and snow, many will have had time to ponder their dream car and chauffeur in these conditions. What odds could you get for the car being a Kia Rio....well the all conquering Kia Rio Ice Racer with Yvan Muller, reigning BTCC champion, at the helm.
The Kia Rio Ice Racer, is leading the Elite Class of the World Ice Racing Championships, the Andros Trophy, ahead of the likes of ex-Formula One champion, Alain Prost in a Toyota Corella and the Seat Leon of Laurent Fouquet.
As you might expect, this is not a standard Kia Rio and Yvan Muller is not an average driver. The car weighs just 950 kg, has four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering top allow faster cornering. The amount of time spent going sideways is confirmed by the use of a wiper on the door window. Specially-developed Continental tyres ensure the best possible traction and grip.
The final battle is set to take place this weekend at Super Besse, France where sheet ice race tracks will hopefully let Yvan Muller claim his eighth victory and a first championship title for Kia. Kia's second driver and rising star of The Andros Trophy, Evens Stievenart currently lies in 6th position.
