THE mother of missing Tammy Lane today says she is more worried than ever about her daughter's safety.

A 30-year-old man from the Highgate area of Birmingham has been charged under the Child Abduction Act in relation to the disappearance of the 15-year-old Nantyglo girl.

He has been granted police bail and is due to appear before Birmingham magistrates tomorrow.

But a Gwent Police spokesman said: "Police have not located Tammy. We are acting on positive sightings of her in the West Midlands area."

Today, Tammy's mother, Michelle French, said: "My main concern is Tammy. I'm even more worried about her now as she's out there on her own and hasn't got a roof over her head. I just want her to come home."

Tammy went missing from her home in Winchestown last Wednesday after apparently using an Internet chat room.

It is believed she had been using a computer at a local library. Ms French said she believes libraries shouldn't allow the use of chat rooms on their computers. She said: "They should be for educational use only. It's just too easy for technology to be abused."

A Blaenau Gwent council spokesman said: "As an extension to our child protection policy we are about to consider a report recommending the removal of access to Internet chat rooms via the People's Network. The issue of only allowing educational sites is open to interpretation."

Tammy was last seen in Gwent early on Wednesday after telling a shopkeeper friend she was visiting a relative in Birmingham, although her mother told the Argus she has no family there.

Inspector Tony Green, of Gwent Police, said: "We are still very concerned for her safety, and the next step is to try and find her."

Police want to talk to a man and woman who may have been with Tammy at 3am on Sunday when she was sighted leaving New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

Tammy, 5ft 7in tall with blue eyes and blonde hair, has been missing before, but has always returned home after a couple of days, her mother says.

Ms French said: "She has never before taken clothes with her or been away this long. I'm afraid for her safety."

Anyone with information about her disappearance should contact Ebbw Vale police on 01495 350999.
