FUNNYMAN Max Boyce will be a special guest at the opening of a redeveloped Gwent tourist attraction next month.
The popular comic and singer, famed for his rugby stories and songs, and the son of a miner, will be at the re-launch and opening of Blaenavon's Big Pit, the National Mining Museum of Wales, on February 16. Over the past three years the museum has undergone a £7.1million redevelopment programme.
As well as a huge restoration and expansion, two new buildings have been built - the Conservation Workshop and Store, where conservators work on objects from Wales' national coal collection, and the Operation and Resources Building, a study space for anyone interested in researching the Welsh coal industry.
As part of the re-opening celebrations an exciting programme of activities for adults will be held throughout the day. Visitors can take part in the family trails around the new site and take the world famous tour underground, 300ft down the Big Pit coal mine.
