PETER Nicholas has called on Newport County fans to show their support and spur his side to victory over Cardiff City tonight (kick-off: 7.30pm).

Nicholas said: "Come and back us and we will show you what we are capable of."

The County boss paid tribute to the Exiles' vocal away support, saying the fans had helped drive on the team to an incredible ten games on the road without defeat, and he wants the

Newport Stadium faithful to take up the baton. He said: "The away support has been fantastic and they are very loud which helps drive the team on and this has shown in the results.

"They back the team from start to finish. I hope now that the home fans can do the same because it gives the team a great lift."

Nicholas knows County's home displays have been sub-standard but he sees the visit of Lennie Lawrence's Bluebirds to Newport Stadium (KO 7.30) as an ideal chance to turn it around.

"To be fair we have been poor at home but this is a different kind of game and it gives us the chance to show the home fans what we can do.

"It is a great indicator of how far we have come and to play the way we have done n away matches," he said.

Nicholas has been boosted by the kind of week that makes football management worthwhile with proven striker Sam Bowen signing from Bromsgrove Rovers as well as Jamie Moralee and Scott Morgan pledging their futures to the club.

"We have got some great youngsters here but it is a lot to ask of them to play at this level each week so it is good to have some experience in to help them," he said.
