A NEW political party in Gwent is trying to woo voters - with a promise to be free of politics.

The Blackwood-based Reality Party plans to field as many as 30 candidates in June's council elections in Caerphilly.

Its leader, Blackwood pub landlord Paul 'Tinker' Taylor says his candidates are fed up with conventional politicians. He says the traditional parties are too busy fighting each other to have time to deliver for the people.

Mr Taylor, who ran as an anti-Assembly 'Tinker Against The Assembly (TATA)' candidate in last year's Assembly elections, said: "People have had a taste of Plaid Cymru, having voted them in last time because they were fed up with Labour.

"Do people want a new team of people who are offering themselves for election because they could make a difference? A group of individuals who under the umbrella of the Reality Party, rather than as vague prospective Independent councillors, hope to make a difference in the way things are done in local government."

The Reality Party says it will have candidates in 40% of the wards, giving it the potential to make a real difference.

Currently in Caerphilly Plaid have 38 councillors, Labour, 28, Liberal Democrats, three, and independents, four.
