CERI Jones, the Harlequins and former Newport prop from Usk, says he is shocked and overwhelmed at his inclusion in the Wales Six Nations training squad.
Only nine days ago the Argus urged Wales coach Steve Hansen to consider Jones after his performances for Harlequins in the Zurich Premiership and Parker Pen European competitions, scoring five tries in four games.
He then went one better when he scored the winning try against Newcastle in the eighth minute of injury time at the weekend.
Jones said last week that Quins chief coach Mark Evans was sending a video of him in action to Hansen. Now the 26-year-old has made it into the full squad.
"I'm sure your story last week helped," said Jones last night. "But to be fair this is a real shock, I'm very happy, overwhelmed. My season seems to be going from good to better.
"Things move so fast that you just never know. Now I've got to get down there and work hard in the next couple of months and see what they think of me."
Hansen said, "We'll keep on eye on Ceri, we'll get a chance to see him closer and he will be able to see us," referring to the next three Mondays when the 47-strong squad will train at the Vale of Glamorgan.
Newport Gwent Dragons have four players in the squad - Nathan Brew, Hal Luscombe, Michael Owen and Peter Sidoli.
But there is no place for 20-times capped Ian Gough while Rhys Oakley, who played against Ireland in August, is also overlooked.
Sidoli, 23, is a year younger than 18-times capped brother Robert and they will bid to follow the Quinnells, Scott and Craig, and the Llewellyns, Gareth and Glyn, into the Welsh team.
Brew, just returning from a cheekbone injury, was capped against Romania in August while Luscombe was a late replacement against Scotland.
Luscombe's selection is a reward for his form for the Dragons. "I'm happy to be playing and performing for the team, there's a real buzz," he said.
"Being involved in the set-up and playing against Scotland made me that much more hungry to be successful to see what I can achieve if I work hard."
More squad newcomers are full back Barry Davies, prop John Yapp and flankers Phil Pugh and teenage Gloucester player James Merriman.
In-form Davies could get an early chance after Kevin Morgan suffered more injury woe yesterday when he broke his left foot in a freak training accident, which will put him out for six to eight weeks.
