EXTENDED talks over proposed post office closures in Blaenau Gwent ended yesterday - but locals remain pessimistic.
Post Office bosses made a U-turn last month by increasing the period for public consultation by two weeks.
It was sparked by a series of protests by residents angered over plans to axe 16 branches throughout Gwent.
Officials claim there are too many branches competing for too little business.
Dawn Wilcox, of Ebbw Vale, signed a petition and demonstrated against the closures.
She said: "I'm not convinced we will get everything we want. I think they have mostly made their mind up.
"I'm hoping they may give us some concessions."
Blaenau Gwent MP Llew Smith said the extension was a publicity stunt. He said: "We have a tradition here in Blaenau Gwent of celebrating Christmas and New Year.
"The extension was over that period and so was of little use. It was a PR exercise."
A Post Office spokeswoman said: "We will now review all the issues raised during the consultation before a final decision on the proposed closures will be made."
