THE family of a Monmouthshire man who died in a road crash on Christmas Eve have paid tribute to their 21-year-old son.
Former King Henry VIII Comprehensive School pupil Ryan Lancaster was killed at a notorious accident blackspot near Pandy.
Gwent Police are still investigating the tragedy, which happened near the Park Hotel.
Ryan's grieving parents, Carol and Lyndon, said: "His passing is an immense loss to us all."
Ryan was walking along the A465 between 9.15pm and 9.45pm when he was hit by a car.
His body was later discovered by residents from nearby Glandwr Cottages.
More than 20 floral tributes were laid at the roadside by family and friends. He was training to be a plant operator in construction and demolition with the Cuddy group of Neath.
Carol and Lyndon said Ryan helped demolish his former school, Llywnu Infants in Abergavenny.
He was also expected to complete a course in demolition explosives.
His parents said: "He was a member of the Gwent ACF and rose in rank to cadet staff sergeant.
"He was renowned for his skills and abilities in organising training exercises."
Ryan's night manoeuvres at Castle Meadows, Abergavenny, were especially memorable amongst his pals.
Ryan was also a keen coarse fisherman.
His family said: "Ryan often delighted his parents with his catch."
His love of motoring took up much of his spare time.
Ryan's parents said: "He would spend many hours lavishing love and attention on his much beloved car."
As well as his parents, Ryan leaves brothers Jake and Dwayne and sisters-in-law Nicole and Jade and "adored" niece Aquilla.
Ryan's parents said Ryan would be missed by "dear girlfriend" Danielle and the rest of his family and friends.
Gwent Police are appealing for anyone who knows anything about the incident or anyone who saw Mr Lancaster between 9.15pm and 9.45pm on Christmas Eve to come forward with any information.
