April's card design impresses judges THE winner of Campaign's Christmas card competition - ten-year-old April Voisey - was "delighted" when Caerphilly MP Wayne David presented her with a cheque for £100. The Ysgol Ifor Bach School pupil beat off competition from hundreds of other children in Caerphilly to take first place with her snowman design. April, described by her year six teacher, Mrs Lowrie Washington-Jones, as a "natural artist", will see her work displayed as an illumination at Castle Court Shopping Centre. The design will be featured on Mr David's official Christmas card and be sent to colleagues and dignitaries including Prime Minister Tony Blair and politicians in Europe. Part of the prize is a trip to London to visit the House of Commons. April said: "I am very excited that I won. It's the first competition I have entered and am really looking forward to the trip to London." April's mum Karina said: "My husband Simon and I are thrilled she's won." Mrs Voisey added: "April spends a lot of time drawing - it's her hobby. We're all excited that her design will be illuminated in the shopping centre and plan to make the trip to London an event by going to see a show." Mr David said: "The winning design is an outstanding work of art and the printed Christmas cards look lovely. It has been a fantastic competition sponsored by four local companies as well as the Campaign." Runner-up this year was James Jones, aged 5, of Twyn School. He will receive £50. Third place was awarded to Courtney Lewis, who is just three years old and will be presented with £25.
