ANOTHER post office will close in Cwmbran, chiefs announced. The Post Office has announced the Greenwillows post office in Oakfield will close as part of its Network Regeneration Programme despite strong local opposition.
The decision has been called disappointing by Julie Reynolds, chairman of the Llantarnam, Oakfield and Court Farm Residents' Association. The closure is planned for a date to be announced in January.
Dave Barrett said comments and three petitions from customers and local representatives had been received by the Post Office during a recent consultation period.
Concerns, he said, centred mainly on the effect of the closure on elderly customers and the convenience of nearby alternative branches.
But he said: "We believe the area to be well served by local Post Office branches. Indeed, there are four branches near the closing branch.
"We have carefully considered both the local terrain and the facilities available within the area, particularly parking and public transport, in arriving at our final decision."
