THE beautiful game helped boost community spirit in youngsters from Newport estates.
One hundred young people from across the city competed in a cross-community football tournament in Ringland, aimed at bringing youngsters together and boosting community spirit.
The tournament was the result of a partnership between Charter Housing, Newport Youth Service, Ringland Community Association and Gwent Police.
PC Grant Taylor, community safety officer, said that young people from estates in Alway, Ringland, Duffryn and Bettws were taking part, along with young people from Chartered Housing on Saturday.
He said: "It is about giving young people the opportunity to have a day of fun, girls and boys included.
"A lot of people have helped and worked hard to make the day a success." The day, with under-14 and under-18 categories, had a barbecue after the event and the multi-surface area was decorated with a banner painted by some of the young people.
