A GWENT woman who was punched, kicked, burnt and taunted with a firework by a gang of youths says she is still afraid to leave her house.

The mother of two was left terrified by the attack, and says she will never feel safe until the yobs are caught.

The traumatised woman, who is too frightened to be identified, is even considering moving house.

As the Argus revealed last month, she was walking her dog through an alleyway in Pontllanfraith when the gang of youths set upon her.

She broke down in tears when she told the Argus of her ordeal, saying: "I just kept on screaming at them, 'let me go,' but they wouldn't. One of the boys lit a firework and held it to my face. I thought, 'that's it, I'm going to get it'."

But almost a month on, no one has yet been arrested or charged with the vicious assault, and the woman says she cannot begin to get her life together knowing that her attackers are still out there.

She said: "I hate what they have done to me. They have wrecked my life. I can't go out anymore. I want the people who did this to me to be caught."

The attack happened near the Llanarth Stores at 7pm on November 7. Now the woman has told the Argus she doesn't feel enough is being done to ensure her attackers are brought to justice.

She said: "Someone out there must know who did it. I would appeal for anyone with any information to get in touch with police.

"I need to start living again, I need to feel safe. At the moment I'm even considering moving."

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: "Since the last appeal we have received information which we are investigating. The case is very serious and is being treated as such."

Anyone with information should call Blackwood police on 01495 223 673.
