THE TOP match of the day in the first division between undefeated Cwmbran Celtic and champions Aberbargoed Buds ended in stalemate, as ten matches were postponed due to the weather in the league.

Celtic took the lead in the first-half through Michael Dewer but the Buds equalised after the interval through Iwan Aherne, a draw being a fair result on reflection of play.

Leaders Croesyceiliog AFC visited neighbours Lucas Cwmbran and returned with a seven goal victory.

Jamie Jenkins was the main net-buster for the Cockerals as he scored a hat-trick, with Chris Pritchard netting twice, James Stokes and Chris Watkins being the other marksmen.

Both Newport Corinthians and Abercarn United, who are in need of points, recorded victories. The Corries got a 3-1 home win over Trinant AFC, with Phil Ricci (2) and Chris Mill the goalscorers.

Abercarn, also at home, gained a 2-1 victory against Garnlydan, with Dean Kendall scoring both goals.

Newport Civil Service take over as leaders of the second division after a four goal win over bottom club Monmouth Town.

Colin Wigmore was a hat-trick hero for the Civil while James Bubella got one as well.

Cromwell Youth move up into second place after their three goal victory when visiting Fairfield United, Dean Martin, Ben Davies and Nick Shelley the marksmen.

Tranch AFC entertained Christchurch Hamdden and won by the odd goal in seven. Mark Walker (2), Shaun Crowley and Robert Tovey were the goalscorers.

Only two games were played in Division Three and they saw Pilcs moving up one place after their 2-1 victory when visiting Crusaders AFC.

Thornwell Burnt Barn were also victorious as they gained a 4-0 home win over Abergavenny Thursdays thanks to goals from Paul Bettson, Terry Woodward, Gareth Howells and Nick Robinson.
