A CWMBRAN man was jailed for four years for a "brutal and vicious" wounding with a pint glass that "could have blinded his victim".
Noel Anthony Bradley, aged 33, of Aran Court, Thornhill, Cwmbran, was found guilty at Chester crown court of unlawfully wounding with intent at an incident on July 19 at the Kingfisher pub, Cwmbran.
The court heard that Iwan Preece, a civil engineer, was enjoying a birthday meal with his family in the pub but when he went to the bar he was attacked by Bradley.
John Lovelady, prosecuting, said Bradley threw a pint glass that smashed in his face.
Blood poured from wounds to his face and Bradley then jumped on him, the court heard. Customers pulled Bradley away and Mr Preece was taken to hospital, where he had 15 stitches inserted in two wounds near one of his eyes.
Mr Preece also suffered haemorrhaging to his eye but his sight was not permanently affected and he sustained no fractures.
Judge Roger Dutton, who conducted the trial at Cardiff crown court and sentenced Bradley at Chester, said Bradley was responsible for a "brutal, nasty and vicious attack that could have blinded his victim".
After he was arrested, Bradley told the police he did not like "being stared at."
Mr Lovelady said Bradley had previous convictions, including one for assaulting a policeman. Meirion Davies, defending, said Bradley, who was being treated for depression, functioned at a low level and hopefully, a prison psychiatrist would be able to help him during his inevitable custodial sentence.
