DESPITE the rain, Santa Claus was greeted by hundreds of people when he rode into Pontypool in a horse-drawn carriage for the annual Christmas Calvacade.
A delighted eight-year-old Keelley Quigley, last year's competition winner, did the honours and switched the Christmas lights on, while throughout the day Pontypool Market played host to festive entertainment from Pontypool Brass Band, the New Orleans Marching Band and various children's entertainers.Nevill Hall Sound Radio Roadshow broadcasted live from Commercial Street, and visitors enjoyed the rides and attractions at the funfair in Market Street.
The day was rounded off with a grand firework display.
