LLOYD Pike was just ten years old when he died - but during his brief life the brave youngster touched the hearts of many.
Now his devoted mother Elaine has written a book dedicated to the son whose life was cut so tragically short.
Lloyd died in the arms of his parents in January 2002 - 18 months after doctors diagnosed an inoperable brain tumour.
But Elaine has so far been unable to find the right publisher for Lloyd - A Journey of Courage.
Ms Pike said: "Lloyd passed away in January 2002 and in February I started to write a book about his life.
"I had kept diaries from when Lloyd was diagnosed. I need to keep his memory alive.
"He was very special and lots of people knew him."
Her book deals with what Lloyd went through but also has practical advice for parents faced with the same agonising situation.
"It is sad but it is also straight to the point and I hope it will help others. For instance, how to keep a child happy if they have to have chemotherapy."
She said it had been hard to write but she received encouragement from the four publishers she had approached, even though they told her they were not right for her book.
"They wrote lovely letters saying it was a highly moving story and wished me luck," said 40-year-old Ms Pike.
She is now paying for 50 copies to be printed for family and friends but hopes Argus readers might be able to help her find the right publisher.
When her book is eventually published Ms Pike, of Halstead Street, Newport, wants the proceeds to go to Ty Hafan children's hospice, where Lloyd spent his final weeks, in memory of her son.
