Everything you wanted to know about Welsh jazz will be released on one CD next week.
And the launch party for this excellent compilation, New Jazz Wales (NJW), is tomorrow night in The Riverbank Hotel, Cardiff.
The work of acclaimed Welsh songwriter Christopher Rees and his newly formed record label, Red Eye Music, the CD has been compiled from some of the best of jazz artists in Wales.
Of those featured, Paula Gardiner, Dave Stapleton Quintet, Jones O'Connor Group, and Andrew Fawcett will perform on Saturday.
Paula Gardiner will provide some of the evening's mellower moments, if her self-composed track, Six, on NJW is anything to go by.
Consisting of a circling bass-phrase and dripping tap-like sound effect, Six develops into a strange, oddly compiling groove.
Dave Stapleton will be appearing solo at The Riverbank Hotel but is present with his quartet on NJW.
His offering is more melodic, his saxophone being backed with piano, drums, and bass.
The Jones O'Connor Group will all be present and will hopefully create some of the magic found in Have You Met Miss Jones, on NJW.
It's avant garde led by some striking piano playing and off-kilter percussion work and fluid electric guitar.
Andrew Fawcett's Kind of Blue band are as mellow but more traditional in their approach. The Fawcett-composed Garota de Embu on NJW boasts a seamless jazz solo.
Other artists to be heard on NJW are, Steve Waterman's Jazz Orchestra, Fraser Allibone Quartet, Linda Strelz, Ben Thomas, Laurence Cottle's Big Band, Heavy Quartet, Sabina Turvey Quartet, Wonderbrass and Full Circle.
* New Jazz Wales is launched with a live concert at The Riverbank Hotel, Despenser Street, Cardiff (opposite the Millennium Stadium) on Saturday, November 22. Tickets are £3/2.
* Paul Jones Trio, pictured, play Riverbank Hotel on December 10.
