Wales 0 Russia 0
Amid the smoke, flares and debris that rained down on them, Wales' heroes produced the performance of their lives to survive in the bearpit they call the Lokomotiv Stadium.
Wales fought for every inch and Russia now face a torrid night on Wednesday in Cardiff when Mark Hughes' men could just still force themselves into the Euro' 2004 finals.
The flashpoint of the game was a bad foul on Ryan Giggs and the uproar that followed, the Russian fans hurling lighted flares onto the pitch which is likely to see their federation fined by UEFA, but in all the mayhem, Hughes' men - with Jason Koumas, Andy Johnson, Robbie Savage and Danny Gabbidon outstanding - emerged with a priceless first leg draw.
