COUNCIL officers are set to introduce a CCTV camera at a car-crime hotspot in Gwent in a bid to crack down on vandals and thieves.
Motorists living in Abersychan have been demanding action after a spate of car crime that has turned the Station Street area into a no-go zone.
Youths have been seen dancing on car roofs, and there have been dozens of other vehicle crimes reported in the Station Street area in the last six months.
Today the Argus can reveal that Torfaen county borough council plans to install CCTV equipment to cover the car park.
As part of our Car Safe campaign, the Argus aims to expose car-crime hotspots and to make car-park operators more accountable for security.
Torfaen mayor Councillor Doug Davies, who lives in Station Street, said: "We have had a lot of problems during the last six months with cars being damaged or stolen.
"It's getting to the stage that people are afraid to leave their cars at the Station Street car park overnight."
Mr Davies has been the victim of several car vandalism attacks in recent weeks.
