A KEEN cyclist and his wife have opened a bike shop in Abergavenny town centre.
M&D Family Cycle shop is based in Frogmore Street and caters for cyclists ranging from toddlers to grandparents.
Miles and Dawn Preece, whose initials form the name of the business, set up shop after moving from their home in Guernsey.
Mr Preece said: "I was the manager of a bike shop in Guernsey for two years and we were looking for somewhere to open our own place.
"We were on holiday with my dad in Hereford and decided to come to Abergavenny to have a look at the town.
"We all fell in love with the place."
Mr Preece has two decades' experience of sport and fitness associated with a career in the army.
He said: "I still keep fit, and my time for a 25-mile time trial is less than an hour."
Daughter Jodie, aged 14, has just started at King Henry VIII Comprehensive School and son Jason, aged 16, is hoping to start a mechanic's apprenticeship.
Two other important members of the family are Jaffa and Juno, golden retrievers who sit at the back of the shop behind a child's safety gate, anxious to greet customers!
From a position of having no cycle shops, Abergavenny now has two, as the nearby Gateway Cycles opened just three months ago.
