RELATIVES of all ages were on hand to celebrate the 100th birthday of Edna James, at the Parklands Home for the Elderly, at Malpas, Newport.
Centenarian Mrs James received birthday wishes from her two children, Trevor James and Patricia Watkins, as well as many of her grandchildren, great-children, and even a great-great-grandchild.
"At one stage there were five generations in the room. It was absolutely wonderful," said Mrs Watkins.
Mrs James, whose late husband was called Alec, is originally from Lincolnshire, but lived in many parts of England before settling in Newport 25 years ago.
In addition to telegrams from the Queen and the Assembly, she had a visit and flowers from Councillor Ray Truman, the mayor of Newport, and around 40 birthday cards. A party and entertainment were also laid on at Parklands.
"She's thoroughly enjoyed herself, especially receiving greetings from so many relatives, including some in Australia," said Mrs Watkins.
