GENEROUS fundraisers have helped bring a hi-tech addition to a Portskewett doctor's surgery - an electro cardiograph machine.

The ladies section of charity group Chepstow Lions held coffee and craft mornings and fun days to raise £1,500 for the ECG heart monitor.

Mrs Pam Russell, a former president of the ladies' group, said: "Each year we ask local people, surgeries and schools what they need.

"Portskewett is a big surgery and we feel the whole community can benefit from the ECG machine."

Jan Davies, reception supervisor at Portskewett Surgery, on Main Road, said: "It's a huge step for us and we wouldn't have got one of these machines for a while if it hadn't been for this help. We've been wanting for one for two years.

"It saves our patients going to Chepstow to have an ECG done. "Anyone coming here with chest pains or heart problems can have a test done before they see the doctor.

"The machine is a small model that fits very well with our computer software."

She said Comben's Crown Hill Nursery in Caldicot had also joined in the fundraising by holding a raffle.
