HUNDREDS of Newport bingo players added their names to the town's city status bid petition when campaigners visited Castle Bingo.
Flags, posters and announcements throughout the night reminded punters to add their name to the growing list of supporters.
The Queen will grant a town the privilege of city status during next year's Golden Jubilee celebration, and the Argus is backing Newport's bid to become a city. Castle Bingo manager Paul Braithwate said they were more than happy to support the bid.
He said: "We were approached by Newport County Borough Council and we immediately said yes.
"There were about 600 players here on the status bid themed night and everyone signed the petition.
"We will keep the book open for a few weeks yet to get as many names as possible."
