LABOUR easily held on to the Torfaen constituency despite a disappointing drop in the turnout compared to 1999.
Lynne Neagle was re-elected as AM, having polled 10,152 votes, a majority of 6,964 over her nearest rival, Conservative Nicholas Ramsay, who polled 3,188.
Ms Neagle also increased her vote from the 1999 election, where she polled 9,080.
But there was some consolation for the Tories, who went from being sixth in 1999, with 2,152 votes, to second in this election.
The turnout was down from 39.2 per cent in 1999 to 32.4 per cent, a fact that each candidate noted.
Conservative candidate Nicholas Ramsay said it was 'disgraceful'.
Ms Neagle added: 'It is disappointing, but it seems to be the pattern across Wales tonight. I don't think it's a reflection of my work, as the pattern is the same across the board.
'I have worked hard for the people of Torfaen, and I want to continue that work. The people have put their trust in me today and I won't let them down.'
Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Mike German came third, with 2,746 votes.
Plaid Cymru candidate Aneurin Preece polled 2,092 votes and jokingly accused Labour of 'underhand' tactics - he was bitten by a Labour supporter's dog.
