A MINERS' union leader says he believes there are up to 10,000 chest compensation claims still to be registered by former Gwent pitmen and their families.
This week is the fourth anniversary of our campaign to bring justice to former pitmen suffering debilitating chest diseases - and their families.
And despite the fact that almost 18,000 claims have now been settled following our persistent pressure to speed up the process, Bleddyn Hancock, general secretary of union Nacods, says many people do not realise that time is running out to lodge the claims. The deadline is March 2004.
