GWENT police used the force helicopter to chase a man disturbed breaking into a house in Cwmbran.

The owner of the house in Five Locks Road, Pontnewydd, returned home at 12.30pm yesterday to find his house being burgled.

The suspect fled, making off with jewellery and cash. Police officers from Cwmbran and the police helicopter were sent to the address, but the man was not caught.

Police say they are looking for a man described as aged around 18, 5ft 5 tall ,with light brown hair and wearing a blue polo top and blue trousers.

PC Darrell Dewar, crime and disorder reduction officer with Cwmbran police, said: "This burglary took place in broad daylight with lots of people around, so somebody must have seen something. I implore householders leaving their houses and at night to close all downstairs windows and to be more safety conscious."
