CWMBRAN girl band star Casey Wilcox is hoping her first single will hit the Top 40 next weekend.

And her band, Dragonheart, played to crowds in Cwmbran and signed cop-ies of their single Hey Mr Radio yesterday.

Dragonheart, the teenage four-piece, released their debut single on Monday.

Bill Fitzgerald, manager of the four girls, Casey, Vicci Lewis, Niki Fitzgerald and Tara Panayi, from Cardiff, is hoping they'll sell 1,900 copies and easily get into this weekend's top 40 - last week, that would have been achieved by selling 1,300 singles.

Mr Fitzgerald said: "Our Price, in Cwmbran, sold out of the single on its first day and emergency orders had to be placed for more to be brought in. "It is a very exciting and nerve-racking time. A lot of hard work has gone into this and the girls have worked very hard.

"It would be better if we got national airplay, but they are worried about playing new songs.

"The girls are popular on 160 radio stations throughout the UK and they are doing really well at the moment, which we knew they would."

Mr Fitzgerald said the girls had been playing throughout the country, supporting a number of acts, and this weekend Dragonheart will be supporting Atomic Kitten in London and boy band Blue, in Exeter, and playing to 30,000 people.

Eighteen-year-old Casey said she was excited and pleased to be performing in her home town.

She said: "It is brilliant at the moment. Two years ago this was just a hobby and now it is so exciting and enjoyable.

"It is nice to perform in Cwmbran because I am local and a lot of people will know who I am, so they will hopefully buy the single. "I love being on stage and having the chance to do all this."
