FIRST Bristol were bulldozed, now Oxford have been obliterated as Torfaen Tigers' march through the National Rugby League Plate competition gathers pace.

The Tigers have now scored 162 points in just two matches and qualified into the last eight of the tournament.

Oxford were thrashed 82-12 at Talywain RFC's Emlyn Park on Saturday under the weight of 15 tries and 11 conversions.

And coach Kevin Weaver reckons there is every chance of them at least making the final.

He said: "Everyone is geeing everybody else up. If I can have the core of this team for the next couple of weeks, I'm sure we can make the final."

It was a red-letter day for Croesyceiliog RFC's outside-half Matthew Entwhistle on Saturday.

He started at prop and scored two tries from there. Then, when switched to a more familiar position in the backs at centre, he went over for a hat trick.

And inside-half Gareth Jenkins wanted to prove something against Oxford. He failed to score for the first time this season in the 80-12 win over Bristol Sonics - and how he made up for it!

Jenkins went over four times, but his brother, Richard, at stand-off, was the chief playmaker for the Tigers' scores while also booting all his side's conversions.

Torfaen led 32-6 at half-time as they set about Oxford with a vengeance during the opening 20 minutes.

But they ran in a half-century of points against just one conceded touchdown from the opposition.

Hooker Jason Hill got a try, in addition to those from Entwhistle and Jenkins, while Joel Griffin, Steff Jones, Nolan Nicklin and two by Jamie Rowles ended the rout.

Weaver added: "It was the hottest day I've ever encountered but they stuck at it to the end. Our performance was unbelievable. Some of the tries were out of this world."

Torfaen face Somerset Vikings in the quarter-finals this weekend.
