GWENT Dragons chief executive David Jenkins says he is not interested in taking Gareth Thomas' place on the Welsh Rugby Union.
Thomas resigned as chief executive of the Celtic Warriors, the combined Bridgend-Pontypridd region, yesterday.
He then went away on holiday, but among the reasons for his shock departure were believed to be lack of WRU funding, poor season ticket sales and personal criticism from fans on websites.
Thomas also represented the five new regions on the WRU.
Jenkins has no wish to replace him, saying: "It's extremely sad that Gareth is going, but there are issues within his own region.
"I've got such a job to do here, I wouldn't want that as well. We have got a dialogue with the WRU and things are moving forward.
"The five regions have got to create a partnership, and there is a meeting with the WRU next week to move the partnership document forward. It's all moving forward quite smoothly."
Jenkins will be overseeing the launch of the Gwent Dragons season ticket sales at Rodney Parade today.
Among the people who have received an application form is Newport benefactor Tony Brown.
It is a standard letter, but the irony is not lost on him with words in the letter like, "As a Newport fan we welcome your support and look forward to igniting your passion for first class cross-border rugby at Rodney Parade."
Brown is also advised in the standard letter that he can have his existing seat, meaning he could see all 14 home games, and that he would have priority seating for away games.
Brown declined to comment publicly.
