DRIVER safety and risk management specialists Peak Performance Management (PPM) have compiled a list identifying the top ten driving faults in the UK, based on the real life experiences of corporate clients over the past 13 years. You might be surprised to learn that the most common driving fault, topping the chart at number one, is low speed collisions whilst parking and manoeuvring.
Although these usually only cause minimal damage to your car, they can in fact result in crash injury or even death for pedestrians. PPM's advice to drivers is simple: do everything slowly, making full use of your mirrors and windows and get out and look or ask for help if you are having trouble parking or manoeuvring. In second place on the list of driving faults is driving too close to the vehicle in front. This usually results in rear end collisions at typical slow-down situations, such as at roundabouts and in traffic queues.
And, following a close third, is stopping too close to the vehicle in front. The likelihood is that you would be pushed into the car in front should you be hit from behind or being unable to drive around the vehicle if it breaks down. The PPM says that this can be avoided by stopping so that you can see where the rear wheels of the vehicle in front touch the tarmac - you have been warned!
