PONTYPOOL'S Llandegfedd reservoir is a Mecca for watersports enthusiasts from all over Wales, who visit for the calm waters and good sailing conditions.
Llandegfedd is the largest body of inland water in South Wales, and its 434 acres is ideal for sailing, canoeing and windsurfing.
Until October 31 Gwent Adventures will be offering instruction in such activities at the Gwent beauty spot.
Proprietor Terry Sculley started the club 23 years ago as a windsurfing club when the sport was still in its infancy.
He said: "It has since grown into a full water activity centre.
"People come here from all over the place - Bristol, Hereford, North Wales.
"What is great about the lake is that the conditions are ideal for both beginners and experts.
"It's also very well controlled - we have a safety boat on the water at all times."
Gwent Adventures is fully recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA)and the adventure licensing authority, its instructors are fully qualified and trained in first aid.
Mr Sculley said: "In 28 years we have never had a serious accident because safety is our top priority."
Throughout the school holiday Gwent Adventures are holding activity days for children during the week from Monday to Friday, including sailing, canoeing and wind surfing.
Children aged 8-16 can also take part in courses where they can obtain RYA certificates.
The cost is £37 for a single day or £167 for five days.
More recently Gwent Adventures have branched out to provide team-building days for clubs and companies.
