Newport County are hoping to attract their next generation of supporters with a family fun day at their only high-profile home pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Combined Counties League side AFC Wimbledon, who boast the biggest following outside the Nationwide Conference, are the visitors to Spytty Park - but Newport chiefs hope the city's young soccer fans flood through the turnstiles and take advantage of the free admission for Under-16s.
The Newport Stadium gates will open at noon, prior to the 3pm kick-off, and the Exiles have organised plenty to keep their younger clientele amused, including:
* Rodeo Bull
* Mega slide and bouncy castle
* Children's penalty competition. * Mascot Race
* Fitness First boxercise display
* Free Newport County AFC goody bag for every child.
"Newport County is a family club and we want our younger fans to be entertained," said Wallace Brown, chairman of the Dr Martens League club. "It should be an excellent day for all the family."
For parents, County officials will open their bar from noon and they have cut the admission price to £5 for adults and £2 for senior citizens.
"We all hope and pray the weather is kind to us," added Brown.
"Our next generation of supporters, like all our fans, are very important to us and we want them to enjoy their day out."
AFC Wimbledon are a breakaway club formed by fans of Nationwide League Division One Wimbledon who did not agree with the club's new board on relocating to Milton Keynes.
AFC Wimbledon spokesman Paul Raymond said today: "Newport will probably be our furthest away trip but we still estimate a few hundred fans attending the game.
"Fans have been booking trains or organising lifts to South Wales. There were 500 of our supporters at a recent friendly at Dorchester and we anticipate a similar amount going to Newport."
* Cwmbran Town's friendly against Welsh League Llanwern tonight has been postponed.
