A MARRIAGE with a difference took place in a Cwmbran church, as two ten-year-old pupils exchanged vows in a traditional white wedding.

Luke Williams and Laura Brown, both ten, were pronounced boy and wife at the special ceremony, held at St Peter's Church, Henllys.

But this wedding was not legally binding - it was just part of the children's school project on different religions.

Over 90 Year Five pupils of Coed Eva Junior School packed the small village church for the traditional Christian wedding ceremony, which was followed by a reception in the school grounds, complete with wedding cake.

Year Five teacher Claire Wallis, who organised the service, said: "This sort of practical experience of the Church brings religion to life in a more interesting way than we can in class."

The couple who exchanged vows were chosen at random out of a large number of pupils who volunteered. As well as the happy couple, other pupils played the parts of best man, bridesmaids and even the bride and groom's parents at the ceremony, which included traditional hymns and prayers.

Father Dennis Richards, who performed the ceremony, said: "It's all good fun, but it also helps to give the children a better understanding of the Church."
