GWENT Dragons coach Mike Ruddock has confirmed an interest in Ross Beattie, the Scottish international back row player who skippered Bristol last season.

Beattie, 25, who has been included in Scotland's 50-strong preliminary World Cup squad, has been plagued by injuries in recent years.

He started just nine league games last season when he struggled with an Achilles' problem.

"I have spoken to his doctor and have been told he should be fit to play in six or seven weeks," said Ruddock.

"But if we sign him it won't be until after stringent medical checks. We are also looking at other CVs besides his."

Ruddock dismissed speculation linking Wales international Colin Charvis with the club after the player's failure to sign for Neath/Swansea.

"I spoke to him a couple of months ago but his valuation is way over the top," said Ruddock.
