JENNA Brookfield died four days earlier than her stepfather Michael Baldwin claimed, murder trial jurors were told yesterday.

Baldwin also hid her body before burying it, and lied about the last time he saw her, Crown prosecutor David Aubrey, QC, alleged.

Yesterday, on day 23 of the trial at Cardiff crown court, Mr Aubrey said Baldwin claimed he was the last person to see the 15-year-old, on Tuesday, September 10.

Jurors were previously told by Baldwin that Jenna accidentally fell down the stairs and died after they argued, and he buried her immediately.

Mr Aubrey yesterday claimed Jenna died on the 5th, Baldwin hid her body and worked a nightshift and then buried her.

During cross-examination he said: "Mr Baldwin, she was last seen by her friends on September the 5th and the reason why she was not heard from again was because that was the day she died."

Baldwin replied: "No, you're wrong." Baldwin also admitted that he hit Jenna to stop her hitting him - and she fell down the stairs.

Mr Aubrey: "You hit her and as a result of that blow she fell down the stairs and died. "There is no question of an accident is there?" "It was an accident," said Baldwin.

Mr Aubrey said: "But it was a deliberate blow, not an accidental one?" Baldwin said: "Yes, but I didn't know she would go down the stairs." Baldwin, 36, formerly of Limekiln Road, Pontnewynydd, denies murdering Jenna between September 3 and 11 last year. Proceeding
