And Shilpa Routledge, manager of Shill Pharmacy, in Leadon Court, Cwmbran, was having to replace daily stocks of sun cream.

"Whatever we had on the shelf has gone in the last three days," she said.

And Mark Sidoli, managing director of Ebbw Vale-based Sidoli's Ice Cream said his firm has doubled production.

He said: "This week we will produce 5,000 litres of ice- cream a day. We usually produce 2,500 litres a day." But the sunshine was set to end tomorrow, with the threat of thundery showers.
