FORMER Cross Keys captain Steve Gardner has joined Caerphilly with a swipe at his former club.

Back row forward Gardner (pictured) said he never wanted to leave Pandy Park.

But he felt certain individuals had not been totally honest with him over certain matters.

"I've always been totally loyal to Cross Keys and never wanted to leave," said the former Neath player.

"I had been there for a few years and though I had offers from other clubs I never thought about moving and always turned them down.

"I am very disappointed because I thought I would finish my career at Pandy Park.

"My leaving is nothing to do with the players or the coaches or the management staff who I've said my farewells to.

"But one or two individuals I believe have not been as honest with me as I have been with them so I have decided on a fresh start."

Gardner would not elaborate on his complaint, but it is believed to concern his recent injury and not being offered an immediate contract for next season by the club.

Gardner will not be back in action until the end of October after a biceps operation which it was thought might keep him out of action even longer.

He says the arm is strengthening by the day and he is confident of returning to full fitness.

"I had a couple of offers," said Gardner, "but Caerphilly were prepared to offer me a contract knowing I won't be able to play until October."

Cross Keys secretary Chris Clarke said: "We are disappointed Steve has decided to leave. We'd like to thank him for his services to the club and wish him the best in the future."

Meanwhile Pontypool record-breaking wing Lenny Woodard is still thinking over his future. He had hoped to win a Gwent Dragons regional contract and is currently training with Zurich Prem-iership outfit Bath.

He has been offered a contract by Welsh Premier Division side Aberavon and is also hoping to be offered one by Pontypool when their future is determined.

"It's just a matter of weighing things up and then reaching a decision," he said.
