AN ARREST warrant was issued for an Abergavenny father yesterday - after he failed to appear before magistrates to be sentenced for assaulting a teacher.

Peter Gyomrey, 40, of St David's Road, Abergavenny, pleaded guilty last month to assaulting Gwenda Binns, a teacher at King Henry VIII Comprehensive School, and using insulting words or behaviour on March 4, 2003.

Gyomrey was due to appear before magistrates in Newport yesterday to be sentenced, but he failed to appear and a warrant without bail was issued.

Magistrates were told Gyomrey had missed one previous court appearance, and he had a significant number of previous convictions, one including attempted murder of a police officer. The court was also told that psychiatric report suggested Gyomrey had a chemical imbalance and numerous other psychological problems.
