BRIAN Coyne has praised the camaraderie of his fully-fit European-bound Cwmbran Town squad.

The Crows boss reported a clean bill of health following their weekend practice match with Hounslow United, then applauded his Welsh Premier League side's team-spirit.

"The Hounslow game was a great work-out for my players and dusted off some cobwebs," said new chief Coyne.

"The 1-1 result was irrelevant as I just want to see at first-hand what players I have at my disposal.

"There are about 25 players in my squad and this pre-season is about assessing the ability and attributes of every one.

"The team-spirit, I have to say, is second-to-none and has encouraged me immensely. The camaraderie in the dressing room is a credit to every player at Cwmbran Town.

"The death of Tony Willcox (Cwmbran's previous manager) was extremely difficult for everyone in Welsh football, let alone this club, to deal with. We are all still grieving.

"But that tragedy seems to have bonded the players closer together. That spirit bodes well for the forthcoming season."

Not one of Coyne's team, who clash with much-fancied Maccabi Haifa in the UEFA Cup qualifying round, is carrying a serious injury.

"One or two have got aches and pains but thankfully there's nothing serious," he said. "And I'll keep my fingers crossed that our luck continues throughout our season."

Town host a Cardiff City XI at Cwmbran Stadium next Wednesday (7.30pm).

The Division One newcomers might play their top stars but it is thought mainly reserve and youth players will make the short trip.

Cwmbran will play another training match against Welsh League outfit Cardiff Corries at the University Playing Fields, Llanrumney, on Saturday (2pm).
