A HUSBAND and wife who were encouraged to take out an endowment policy to cover the repayment of their mortgage in the 1980s were informed by their building society that there would be a shortfall when the policy matures.

After talking to one of the solicitors at the recent South Wales Argus/ Harding Evans legal roadshow, the couple were advised to contact the Financial Services Ombudsman to make a complaint.

The legal team of David Morgan, William Parr and Alun Morgan also helped one person who was having problems with his neighbour. He complained that his neighbour was not making a contribution to water charges and was annoyed at the general untidy state of the adjoining premises.

In another case, a man tripped over a drain cover and suffered a cut to his eye which required stitches and also aggravated a previous injury.

The man's case had been taken on by another solicitor - but he has since disposed of their services as he felt no progress was being made.

The council has denied liability and he is now funding the case and representing himself. He was advised by one of the solicitors on hand to make an appointment with a local firm of solicitors who specialise in personal injury claims.

The team also dealt with a number of other inquiries including family disputes and debt-related problems.

Zep Bellavia, managing partner of Harding Evans, said: "The roadshows are a big success with large numbers of people turning up at each location.

"There is certainly a demand to run the roadshows again next year."

The final roadshow will be held tomorrow outside the shops in Heather Road, St Julians, from 6pm-8pm.

Three solicitors will offer free and confidential advice.
