FROM the outside, the Olde Oak in Rogerstone cannot be described as particularly attractive or inviting in appearance.
But looks aren't everything - ignore the exterior and head inside the spacious restaurant area, where you'll find you are in for a treat of good home cooked food.
The Olde Oak pub boasts a large separate eating area it gives diners the opportunity to have a quieter evening.
The menu is full of traditional home cooked food at reasonable prices and there should be something to suit most tastes.
For starters I chose potato skins with a salad which were tasty and a good start for any meal, costing £3.99.
My partner chose calamari and again there was plenty to enjoy at £4.25. We both picked the mixed grill for the main course at £8.99 each.
The mixed grill came with a small salad and chips or a jacket potato and proved too much for both myself and my partner.
The quality was good, but the quantity in this case was just a little too much. Despite the extremely filling main course both my partner and I, after a short break, felt we had to try the dessert menu.
The dessert selection was, I felt, limited so we decided to share a chocolate pudding with cream.
The dessert was just the right size for both of us and good value at £2.99. We finished the evening off with two coffees and the bill for the meal and all drinks came to a very reasonable £37.69. An enjoyable evening out in relaxed surroundings. Helen Roberts
