WALES' very own girl band, Dragonheart, set Newport on fire, shooting a video for the group's debut single.

The teenage dance act's first single, Hey Mr Radio, is to be released on Monday, July 21, and follows on the heels of the band's second appearance on Ian Wright's talent show, I'd Do Anything.

Dragonheart owes its big break to the Saturday-night TV programme, which persuaded chart-topping boy band Busted to appear on screen with the four South Wales teenagers. The girls have also performed on the same stage as Blue and S-Club.

The video, shot at Newport City Live Arena last Thursday, fits into a packed schedule for the four-piece girl band, who have been promoting their single with a punishing schedule of radio interviews and live appearances in Wales and Merseyside.

Band member Casey Wilcox, from Cwmbran, said she had enjoyed every minute of the mammoth shoot - which kept the girls busy from 4.30pm till midnight.

Ms Wilcox, 16, of Bowleaze, Greenmeadow, said: "We were not tired at all because we were all having such fun - this is what we love doing. We've had a taste of the pop- star world now.

"It's what I've wanted all my life - it's every little kid's dream. But now that it's real, we see just how hard you have to work and how determined you have to be."

Newport City Live Arena's manager, Richard Perry, said he had hoped to attract production companies when he refurbished the derelict Capone's nightclub.

"I don't know that this will make Newport into a new Hollywood, but the production companies from London were very impressed by our facilities, and so we hope other bands will be attracted to the NCLA by the video," he said.
