EVERYONE is invited to a double celebration party in Blaenavon on Saturday, June 28. Visitors, residents and businesses will be remembering the day the town was placed on the tourist map as a World Heritage Site.
This year is the third World Heritage Day and will be extra special as literary lovers flock to visit the country's newest book town.
James Hanna, from Booktowns International, has been helping booksellers set up shop in a move that will see the World Heritage site compared to famous Hay-on-Wye. Ten new bookshops officially open on World Heritage Day.
The day is packed full of fun for all the family. The period costume parade is popular and there's still time to enter. Cash prizes can be won in categories ranging from the best family group to the best walking group to the best child under 11 and over 11.
If you're stuck for a costume idea here are a few to get you thinking - miners, Welsh ladies, working children, ironworkers or historical characters from Blaenavon's past. If all that parading and dressing up sounds too energetic you can just watch from the pavement.
The parade starts at 1.30pm from the top of Broad Street. But don't forget the celebrations start at 10.30am when town criers declare the day open at the Workmen's Hall steps.
After that keep an eye on the time as there are nine town centre venues to keep you entertained all day, make sure you plan your day to visit everything.
The highlights include a rodeo bull, circus workshop, dancers, jugglers, antique valuations, live singers and music, collectables and craft fair and a giant inflatable slide. It's a lot of fun to fit in one day but whatever you do don't miss it!
