SMALL stage actors dream of transferring to the West End, West End actors dream of transferring to films, but few school pupils dream of their school production transferring anywhere very much.
For a group of Cwmbran students, however, taking part in a production of the musical The Hired Man has led to bigger things.
The show at Fairwater Comprehensive was such a success that it is being put on again at Newport's 400-seater Dolman Theatre.
The play is adapted from Melvyn Bragg's book telling the life story of his grandparents at the turn of the last century as they moved from working the land, to the mines and back again.
Musical director Stephen Benavente said: "It's a very ambitious show for a school, and to take it into a professional theatre is even more so. Not many school productions are seen at the Dolman."
The musical, directed by professional actress Adrienne O'Sullivan, is showing on tonight and tomorrow at 7.15pm. Tickets are available on the door or from the box office on 01633 643950.
