POLICE are again appealing for witnesses to the car crash at Langstone on Sunday in which 24-year-old Paul Cutler died.
Mr Cutler, (pictured) of Howe Circle, Ringland, was named by police yesterday morning. His family were still too distraught to speak to the Argus.
Mr Cutler was pronounced dead at the scene after the Proton car he was travelling in was in collision with a Ford Granada on Magor Road near Langstone.
Six other people were seriously injured in the accident and were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital.
Twenty-four firefighters cut free four people, who all lived locally, from the wreckage. The B-road was closed for nearly six hours as the emergency services rescuers carried out their work and accident investigators examined the area.
Langstone residents said they had been complaining about the busy 30mph road for two years.
"It is a very dangerous stretch of road," ward councillor David Atwell told the Argus. Newport council are drawing up an accident report with the police and issues surrounding the speed limit signs on the road would be considered.
Anyone with information should contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 quoting log number 478 of June, 15, 2003.
