GLAMORGAN'S former England opener Steve James' cricket career may be over.
The 35-year-old stepped down as club skipper before last night's Twenty20 defeat by Northamptonshire and handed the reins to Robert Croft.
James will miss the rest of the season to have a fourth knee operation he hopes will keep him playing.
He said: "I am still struggling after the operation at the beginning of the season.
"The only chance I have of playing professional cricket again is if I have this operation. It's not a decision I have taken lightly.
"It only gives me a 50 or 60 per cent chance of playing again but that's better than the nought per cent I have at the moment.
"It's with regret I've given up the captaincy but it's only fair to the players. I'm sure Robert Croft will continue doing an excellent job."
