The first of five legal roadshows organised by the South Wales Argus and Harding Evans Solicitors took place at the Gaer last week and a large number of people turned up to get free legal advice.
Solicitors from Harding Evans were on hand to offer advice on a range of queries including enduring powers of attorney, personal injury claims, problems with a utility company and a family dispute over a will.
The legal team advised one person who complained of having problems with his neighbour who was carrying out repairs and renovations to his council-owned property.
He said that the work had caused a lot of noise and had also adversely affected the structure of his property.
Other problems include water pouring onto his garden. In addition, the neighbour has built a shed partially on his property and rubbish has been thrown into his garden.
After speaking to the neighbour and the council, he decided to come to the roadshow to seek legal advice, as the council told him that his complaints were isolated incidents and did not amount to a nuisance.
A specialist property lawyer was on hand to offer advice and said he would look into the possibility of obtaining an injunction to get the neighbour to remove the shed from his property, as well as speaking to the council to see what can be done to enforce his right to enjoy his property.
Zep Bellavia, managing partner of Harding Evans, said: "The roadshows have been running for a number of years and always attract large numbers of people seeking legal advice."
Solicitors from Harding Evans will visit various parts of Newport over the coming weeks in the Argus mobile office.
Each roadshow will run from 6pm to 8pm, and three solicitors will be available at each venue to offer free legal advice. Over the coming weeks the roadshow will be in Maindee, Bassaleg, Malpas and St Julians.
The next roadshow will take place tomorrow at the Maindee shopping centre pay-and-display car park.
